PostSubject: Re: Teaser   Teaser - Page 2 EmptyTue Jul 20, 2010 5:19 pm

cool, nearly finished the pipes...
as for the wrap, all of the above...wot everyone else says. it is gross stuff to work with...
if you are using black wrap

finish pipes, and clean up any rust,
use VHT headder paint or similar and paint the pipes everywhere...
once they are dry have your header wrap soaked for an hour or so (if its black it will loose a bit of colour, dont worry)
yep, gloves and a 2 person job, grab the header and the end of the wrap and start rolling it over keeping a good and even overlap, have your mate keep the wrap comming off the roll tight.
with the wrap go around brackets a couple of times to cover like irishjon said, i did mine like that.
the first wrap around will hold its self, its just the finished end you will need to hold, and it will fray when cut
once its all dry, get the can of VHT and re coat all the wrap

it will smoke a bit when you start your bike but will settle down pretty quick after that.
after a few k's the wrap will look faded, just give a quick spray with VHT again.

if you are using silver or white wrap, use the same colour for the heat paint on the metal before you wrap, but you wont need to do the finish coat on the wrap.
the paint on the headder makes the wrap last much longer.

there is prob something i forgot but you will work it out as you go...

I'm only wrapping the mufflers, and the mufflers are stainless.

The header is the stock pipe, chromed.

Had a go at firing it up... no luck. Battery flat now, so will try 2morrow evening as battery is on charge. Will clean spark plugs as well.

Got a few back fires, and a couple of really loud turn overs.

Didn't have trouble like that before, with the mufflers mocked up (not welded completely etc)

Thanks. I didn't really do much. Just made new mufflers.

Bike started today - not sure why. I guess charging the battery for 24 hours and little it sit awhile did it some good.

And what was even cooler is the new exhaust shot flames when I started the bike.

Hahaha! lol!

Making some progress, although not as much as I'd had liked due to family and work commitments.

I'm at odds and not looking forward to all the tac welding I have to do shortly, to make the upper muffler line up perpendicular to the bottom muffler.

Well, after a week of full time work minus taking a stress day on Friday to be contacting the courts and my lawyer to get my daughter back from her mother who's flogged off with her, I've finally got some more work done on the damn bike.

Will do! I've actually been filming most of the construction, to go on the magazine facebook site. The FB site is used for the multimedia and extra features, and it only takes the push of a button every time I did the work to have a camera running.

Without baffles, it sounds like a shot gun firing empty shells.

Baffles in, it ticks away.

Definitely will post a video up though, with Stock, Modified, and Custom (I have video of all 3 stages of the exhaust on the bike)

So the day after I completely finish the exhaust, we have an earth quake and a tv smashes up my front fender.

Bitch.

Here's the video - let me know if it plays for you (or not)

Fitting new headlight. Have a set of indicators as well but don't think I'll put them on.

Just need to get it running - seems to possibly be a bad bulb. Also need a new plug to keep it plug and play so to speak.

I don't really think the indicators will suit what I'm doing.

Three shops and a day later, finally got a bulb (low watt for the moment) so I can start trouble shooting the problems with the headlight.

Stripped headlight completely, sanded all electrical contact areas, converted hard wires to plugs, shrink wrapped and general cable tidy and protection. Bit of a jiggle in the bulb housing and we have light by ten to one am.

My bike, from factory, has Lo beam on permanently and no park light but new headlight unit has park light bulb as well so have wired that to come on with the high beam.

Given the simplicity of the wiring, I'd still have to say I fuckin hate wiring bikes.

Got some new bulbs to try arriving tomorrow. What wattage is standard for a headlight? My stock headlight seems to be a halogen 60/55 and this after market one I'm fitting came with a 35/35
