Hey Ben. Good to see another Westie. The Wellington Crew were starting to outnumber us. Looking forward to seeing the bike. Those Viragos are srating to get popular as bobbers.

just came up from the garage, a weekend well spent, stoked i got the motor all blacked out and an oil change done

im starting to get a real taste for bikes, i never really liked bikes, but after ive been working on mine, seeing what you cats have got going on, i've grown a real liking! SO easy to work on!

but now i have seen this triumph, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erqS3k5h58k

that's a very cool triumph.
I'll give you my experience, it's not the same for everyone, and you may have a different experience & perception to mine, but i'll just give it anyway, disregard it or do what u like with it!
i started riding jappas in the 200-400cc range in my late teens & early 20's. Then I had time out until my 30's. That's when i tried jap cruisers like intruders & viragos. Then i had a triumph chopper. That had a completely rebuilt motor that started out oiltight but after not much riding leaked oil like anything. The motor always sounded like a bucket of bolts to me. It went ok tho. Apparently the triumph case edges were machined/polished in such a way that led to them leaking, but also some people say the actual cases themselves become porous. (The brit fanatics might correct me on that - Im no expert on the things).
Then i got an ironhead sportster. No other bike was like that. That was it for me. I found what i was looking for. An agricultural tractor-like bike that has gear changes that go 'clunk'. It didnt leak oil tho (was a '76).
Ive now got an evo sporty cos i wasnt into kick starting a 1000cc motor anymore. The gears are still quite clunky. So that's where i ended up. Im 47 now & had this sporty since early 06.

The Yamaha's looking real good. We got matching lids though. Bugger.

Doesn't everybody have an unfinished Smoking Gun project in their garage Laughing
I get back to finishing Sara's one next weekend.

i know what it's like. I lost my license no less than 3 times 'back in the day'
What turned me back to bikes in my 30's was that I owned & drove a taxi for a couple of years. That time made me get so bored with driving cars. And Im still like that now. If the car is fast it helps a bit, but still nowhere near how i feel riding.
