Hey, I'm Mike from Auckland

Hi guys,

Having just got my learners licence at the age of 27 I'm only just making the foray into the world of 2 wheels. after looking for something to commute to work on I decided that nothing in my price range looked too appealing out of the box. So to get into things I picked up a postie spec GN250 for a decent price and am around half way through turning her into a little cafe racer/tracker/city zipper on a budget, but it's turned into a hell of a lot of fun to get to and from work with! Initially I started with a GN as they are super cheap and parts are a dime a dozen but already am looking forward to building a bigger single once this one is done!

looking forward to learning a bunch from the experienced guys here since I'm completely new at 2 wheels as opposed to 4!

Welcome aboard Mike, ahhh the ole GN250... stock standard they are a little, well ok, a lot under powered, look like a postie bike and sound like a small child blowing a party whistle… but they are a good little bike, and yes I did once own one.
They are great to work on, and if you ask me a fun ride.
The only limit with modifying these is your imagination.

Where in Auckland are you based? There may be a Grease Monkey just around the corner that could lend a hand or offer some advice.

Love to see some photos, good on you for making yourself known and look forward to catching up on a “Meet up and Ride”. There is catch up this weekend at Salt Lake Cycles – Helensville if you can make it.

Welcome to Grease Monkeys Mike. I'm interested to see some more small bike builds as I see it as the best way to get more people involved in the life. Cheap and fun sound exactly what we are after. Lets see some pics of what you have done so far and tell us about what the future plans for it are.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome! Haha, yes Tim - they are very underpowered!! I'll get some pics up asap, still a fair chunk of work till she's finished but am thoroughly enjoying the build. Have been doing it mostly in bite-sized chunks so I can keep riding it to work on during the week. Have finally had to take it off the road for a week while I wait for the seat to be reupholstered after I chopped it down, so unfortunately I won't be able to make the meet up and ride this weekend, but I'll be really keen to hopefully make the next one.

I'm based in Mt Eden, so fairly central. All of my building is happening in my carport at the moment which brings about certain fun and games from time to time too!
