PostSubject: Motnz 1979 Kawasaki Z200   Fri May 27, 2011 9:16 am

So i sold the rebel a week or so ago now and was looking for a new project around the 250cc mark as in gonna prob stay on the L license for a while. I was looking at a couple of SR250's but after looking and one in person, i decided it wasn't for me. Along came a lime green Z200 on trademe and i loved the look and organized a time to view it. In the listing, the owner stated that the bike was running 'rich' so it would run for about a min and clog up with fuel. I managed to screw him down to about half of what he was wanting and took it home! Its currently not running so im going to go through everything and try fix the problem myself as i really want to get into fixing/rebuilding my own engines etc. I put it down to either a re-jetting needed for the carb or possibly an electrical issue. If you guys could add your 2 cents that would be goooood.

The bike has a new top end, new mikuni carb, new tires and brakes, wof and reg etc and is in pretty good nick for a 30+ year old bike. My plans for it are to turn it into a 'classic tracker' with a long flat seat, new lights and indicators, new paint and polish of all parts and a general tidy up.

The Indonesians have thousands of these bikes over there and make them look fricken sweet, so they will be my inspiration as there isn't many other countries than have them.

Pics to come this weekend!

Heres the green machine. Still not running pucker, have parts coming from the UK so looking forward to that. Slowly breaking it down and putting new parts on it thanks to Byron @ elboneshaker. Going for a classic racer/flat tracker with my own touches. Like it or not. Will keep posting news.

Ive been playing around with the bike as im not 100% sure on how i want the bike to look like in the end. I brought a set of damn well made clip on handle bars from down the line to see if it would suit. Didnt really think id like the cafe look but its definatly growing on me. I think the overall look id like to go for is a classic looking racer. Not as cafe as some bikes with the massive rear seat lump etc but with some bits from all the different bike types. So here is the clip on's on, still need to play around with the height in the front.

We used to put clipons on everything Laughing Great fun throwing a light weight bike around set up like that. My SR is pretty comfortable as well. I need to make it go faster though.

Hey Tom,

I'd be keen on the old Kawa seat if you're keen to get rid of it - mines getting a bit shot and soaks up a bit of rain.
