PostSubject: Certification?   Certification? EmptyMon Jan 16, 2012 1:46 pm

Hi guys, I am building my first bike at the moment and I am entirely oblivious as to what I can or cant do without it getting looked at by a LVVT guy. The NZTA VIRM says that just about any modifications need to be certified. My biggest concern is the new cap that I want to weld to the fuel tank, removing the catalytic converter from the exhaust, making an entirely new seat and welding a hoop into the rear of the frame. Any help or direction you guys could offer would be a huge help!

Cheers
Mike

never had to get certs for those other things but you may need to for welding the hoop into the frame - it depends if you are chopping the frame anywhere - & whether a wof inspector would notice it as a structural change.
& of course be careful with welding anything on a petrol tank safetywise. prob goes without saying but better to say it anyway

There are loads of bikes running round with those mods so you should be ok. It depends on individual cops and wof guys though. I've had questions about changed seat mounts when getting a wof at VTNZ but I just said it was a standard option and they accepted it.

Choice, thanks guys. This is just what I needed to know, this being my first build I am clueless as to how strict all that crap is.
