PostSubject: New guy new build   New guy new build EmptyMon Oct 01, 2012 10:07 pm

Hi Jon here, living in Hawkes Bay,I have just purchased a 1985 Dr 600 with the idea of making it into a Street tracker.
Big strip down today ,have the beast hanging from a chain block to experiment with rear height, seems a relatively straight forward job to lower the rear by shortning the 2 arms that come from the swing arm to the rocker.
Interested in hearing from anyone how to drop the front end down i( not in the triple clamps) done that and I want more.
Found a gas tank at the local dump, want to build my own seat.
Will investigate posting photos soon

Hi & welcome, have a search on interweb, im not sure about Dr's but adding a spacer on the under the rebound spring reduces ride height on Harleys.. easy fix ...

cheers

Thanks for the welcome, I've tried a simple mod on the front forks of cutting 25 mm off the top spacer, I still have a wee bit of pre load so I am confident that it's a good start, couple that with a drop in the triple clamps and I've got 50mm drop happening.
Bought a book off the Internet on sheet metal work for bikes so I can make my own seat base and back guard, later on I'd like to attempt a Fuel tank, but for now concentrating on full strip down, discarding weight and plastics grind lugs, and repaint

Post pics soon
Ciao Jon
