PostSubject: Hi everyone   Sat May 11, 2013 10:24 pm

Another Aucklander to add to the mix.

My names Sebastian. I'm currently a Architecture Grad and right into bikes.

My first bike was a kawasaki estrella 250, bit of a nod to the old english bikes in looks and perfect to start riding on.

Highlight of my riding so far was a trip with mates to Nelson. Amazing part of the country to ride around.

Over the last six months I've jumped head first into a Shovel build, no real idea about Harley's but I like the look and sound of the old ones and hopefully I'll have it running again with some of your guys help. bought it as a stock 1983 FXWG but aiming for a slimmer custom look. Hardest part so far is the re-wiring and the small amount of metal fabrication I need to get done to mount fenders, seat and tank, anyone here with those skills and wanting to help me out I'll happily pay you for your time, either in beers or cash Smile

On here to share my build and meet people with the same passion as me.

cheers.

will post up a pic of the shovel once my 7 day new member access is granted. unless an admin can allow me to do it sooner?

Hi Sebastian. The wiring is pretty simple. I'm about to start wiring my shovel so I'll dig out teh wiring diagram and talk you through it if you like.

Hi Irish. That would be great. It was originally wired up but after removing the double tanks and controls I haven't been able to get it to fire. Wiring was a mess anyway so I'd like to completely 're do it.

Hi Seb
This wiring diagram was on Chop Cult. Might be useful for you.

Bike looks nice with that seat and tank setup.
Are those shocks the 'feel just like a rigid' type, or something more luxurious like Progressive branded? I have had both. The hard as a rock ones were hard on my back, the progressives were amazingly good for my back and for handling.

cheers for the wiring diagram Irish and thanks for the comment on the tank, I was going to go with a standard sportster tank but this narrow one looks better i think.

Brett, I think they are the hard type. I bought them on ebay without really looking into it. Might have to swap them out for the progressive ones if I can't handle the ride. I still have my originals so I could always put them back on.

The bike has a dual disc brake wide glide front end on it but i'd ideally like to swap this out for a 35mm narrow glide single disc setup, anyone keen to trade?

Just got my tail light and licence plate holder bolted on the other night.

Here's a few photos of the bike when I first got it. One of them shows my old workshop with the shovel sitting next to my mates 550 yamaha build.

Definitely making the right sort of changes there.
Edit: for the welding bits I just use my local engineer. Looked around until I found a friendly one who was also
cheap.
Edit2: yeah the cheap ones are just like rigid struts, might be Ultima brand, I think about 60 to 100US from memory. Progressive brand are absolutely brilliant but are more like 400US. There are other brands though, it was just that I liked progressive.

I have a complete front end off a 97 Sportster I'd swap.
