SRX Cafe Racer Empty
PostSubject: SRX Cafe Racer   SRX Cafe Racer EmptyFri Mar 20, 2015 12:01 pm

Ok, following my own advice... I'm starting my own build thread.
I picked up a 87 SRX250 I will be turning into a Café Racer, she looks like a bit of a pig at the moment, but I have some modest plans for the ole girl.

Replace the rectangle headlight with a round one, getting rid of the front fairing.
Making a seat from the original with that Café Racer look and moulding round the taillight.
Paint, and some new exhaust, and, whatever else comes to mind during the process.

So, I was lacking in motivation.. but now as I have posted this I need to pull finger and get stuck in.

hopefully some progress pics to follow....

Well progress has been slow… still in the scratching head stage and working out how I want this ole girl to end up.
I brought the bike without hearing it going as the carbs leaked, so I have done minimal modifying until I get the bike started and running and know I’m not throwing good money at a bad idea.

Had a little bit of a setback yesterday when the bike caught fire… I thought I had sorted the leaking carbs; It was almost firing so when the carb started leaking fuel again, my need to hear it running outweighed common sense, so I stuffed a rag under the carbs and kept going…. Long story short FIRE, fuel soaked rag on fire, picked up and thrown out the door onto the driveway, fuel falls from said rag, now have several small spot fires on the ground inside and outside the shed.. that and the bike is on fire too, looking around my shed I pause, within a split second I have summed up that this is not how I am going to lose my Triumph, Suzuki, Girlfriend’s Austin land grab and all my tools… anyway, a timely reminder to have a fire extinguisher close by when doing any kind of work, Luckily for me the garden hose was close by, so it did the trick.

A small amount of wiring to redo, might need to replace the airbox… and fix the leaking carbs properly!!!.... You’re probably thinking, “what a Muppet” .. don’t worry, I thought the same thing, and worse… Embarassed

Action pics of flames would have been fun.

I guess the lesson here is to always have the camera handy.

Ha ha, trust you to ask for action pics... I thought about pictures after the event.. truth is if I had taken the time to get the camera out, I would have been close to loosing the bike and everything else... you'll just have to take my word for it... it was mighty impressive Very Happy

Ha ha, thanks Keith... yeah good thing I know this really good Firefighter that remains calm under pressure.

Will we see you tomorrow? Won't be the same without you there.
