PostSubject: From 4 to 2 wheels....   From 4 to 2 wheels.... EmptyFri May 28, 2010 1:54 pm

Hi, I'm Paul from Tauranga. I spent 10 years in the RNZAF, now I'm a heavy diesel mechanic. I work on the Port of Tauranga on container handling machines. I've been into American cars for years, now it's time for my to shake a couple of wheels and start riding again. I've just sold my 67 Buick Riviera, so now I'm in the market for either a straight out project bike, or a bike that I can ride while slowly modifying, keeping on the road while I do so (or 2 bikes would be better). I considered buying a completed bobber, but something inside me told me to build one instead. I've built my last few cars in the shed so I really should be building the bike myself too. I can do most things except paint.

So what I'd like to start with is a 60's or 70's iron head, prefer kicker, maybe strut the rear initially, then maybe grab a Paughco frame, HEAVY metalflake tank, that kinda thing.

Paulo

Hey Paul. Welcome to Grease Monkeys. I'd go for the Ironhead. We need to see a few more nice old bobbers out on the road.

Cheers everyone for the welcomes.

Yeah there's something primal about an ironhead I reckon, I something on another website that said "ironheads were the loudest and meanest harleys ever made", that pretty much sells it for me.

i had an ironhead before my evo sporty, i think they are the most 'Harley' sounding Harley that there is. It's arguable Im sure, but i know there are many who think the same thing.
