Triumph bobber

I've actually had this project lying around for the last three years so I thought its about time I got on with it. Started off with a 71 triumph TR6 that ran well but needed a bit of love. I was going to keep it stock but I've never been able to do that before so I quickly started thinking about how it could be a bit different.

I pulled the motor apart and it soon became obvious that it had a few problems. The crank case was full of cracks where previous owners had screwed on bolts that were too long. The main bearing on the crank was spinning in the case and someone had rolled lots of holes around it in an attempt to give it more oil. I left the case in at York Street Mechanics to get get it repaired but after $1400 worth of welding I decided it was too far gone and I started looking round for a replacement picked up 2 much better cases for $500. Got a good crank for $200 and started to pour through the catalogues and web sites for all the replacement parts I could find. Very slowly I built up a pile of everything I ended to build a good motor.

Picked up a David Bird bolt on hard tail for the 64 Triumph frame loop. Stripped the wheels and got new Sun alloy rims and polished the hubs. Rear fender is from Lowbrow as is the Wassel copy tank. The seat was from Brett on the forum. The oil tank is Mooneyes. Just waiting for the last part for the motor, a rotary breather valve which has been in the post for months. I'm determined to finish this one so I'll post pictures as I go.

She’s a great looking Triumph Jon, every time I’m at the workshop my eyes are drawn to this machine … never thought I would ever say it, but a good move not keeping it original.
