Am finally entering madness, with the idea to turn my stock 1996 Harley 883 Sportster into a cafe racer/adventure beast..

I'm really not mechanically minded, so this is going to be a bit of a learning curve..  A big shout out to IrishJon- You and that place are fantastic beyond description!

This is probably going to be a comedy of errors thread- So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

And start the photos...

...After much procrastination, deliberation and unforced errors, the build finally began with a slightly shakey start.
She's completely stock, but gets me places and in to trouble (and usually back, although not this day)...

My garage is non-existant, so taking advantage of Irishjon's awesomeness.  Got out to Salt-Lake and promptly forgot to take any photos.

Got the seat & rear fender off and replaced the old rear shocks..

Tank and old handlebars are gone (which I was very tired of) and replaced with a set of freshly broken clip-ons...  Loved them as they were, but apparently about to receive a shiny set of after market bolts....

Now we're deciding on final seat geometry and shape.  There's a vague idea of how this ends, but in execution the greatest plans come undone.

Am still undecided about whether we go for the signature:

Or a fuel range that will get me to and from the shops:

It's going to go to a bit of a break while I move into a place with a better gallery (and less bizarre flatmates).  So it's time to attack the print-offs with a marker and see how it turns out...

Being a typical male, I am a visual beast... so the photos are great material.

I'm loving what you're doing with the ole girl, If I could put my 2cents worth in, I dig the larger tank, better mileage capabilities and looks great.

On TradeMe, I stumbled across a couple of nice seats that would look the part ... one was a Biltwell, the other a no name both Cafe Racer style, the latter being $100 cheaper too... I may grab one myself for my current or future build.

I've also wondered how cool it would look to see a Harley with twin exhaust, 1 each side, would mean the front cylinder header would have some gnarly bends..... and off I go into a cacophony of out here thoughts with me myself and I, what better way to past the time at work?

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, just have to remember too charge the battery and take more photos next time..

Am still a little undecided about the tank, the old one is just so very "sportster", which the rest won't be after we're done... But that range is a killer...

Am still looking to make my own seat, it's a new skill and ends up incredibly cheap ($100+time, as opposed to buying unseen) and can beef up the strength for an oil tank under the hump, maybe...

Haven't even vaguely explored pipes in detail, twin is cool, but 2-1 is very tempting...
