Hello,

Here is the start of my 1978 BMW R100RS.

Brought from an older (than me) chap in Tauranga. Found it reasonably cheap due to it being a R100RS with the RT fairing on it,  meaning that the purest's wont touch it because its wrong. Which works out well with me as I planned on taking it off straight away.

Some benefits of the R100RS compared to other versions of the R100 is it had as a rear disk brake instead of a drum and kick start (and electric). Which I've been told the kick start's are hard to come by.

Here is some pictures I took of it about a week in.

A lot of work ahead, I've made some progress and sold the parts I took off to pay for new bits.

Once I got sick of driving a massive wind shield around I ripped it off and sold all the parts on the front end. From the bits I sold , they paid for about half of the new parts. I got parts from Dime City Cycle's and an Ozzie shop.

Handlebars
Indicators
Grips
Mirrors
Headlight
Speedo
Mufflers
Tail Light

I added some Spray paint to the tank and smashed swapped the parts out, It ended up like this:

I broke down on the way to the Classic and Custom show and after some research discovered its my ignition coil. So I have a new one on the way but because its just sitting there I decided to freshen up some bits including the wheel and sub frame paint. This is how she looks Today:

Tomorrow I plan on painting the wheels and a few other bits.

I'll ride it in a work in progress state this summer then when winter comes I plan on pulling it apart and working from the ground up making it all new and nice. I still don't really know my end product. Definitely want a Brat seat and knobby tyres so I can go anywhere.

I also decided I'm painting the tank again so that will change, just working out what I like the look of. Brother in law is a car painter so once I know the finshed product ill hand it off to him to make it look 100%. This week it will be grey with two black stiped down the middle:

Some tech I definalty want is the motogadget stuff, if you dont know what it is and are looking to do your bike electrics watch this video, he explains it very well:
