| it is very much debated about what needs to be certed & what doesn't, and many wof guys dont worry about mods much, as long as it has working lights, indics, brakes etc i heard ktl bikes in western springs are not anal about things might still be best to put some baffling in the pipes cos the cops seem to be pullin over numerous people for that now. i told the guy at my last wof that my bike was lowered front & rear & he didnt refer me for certing for that, he was fairly fussy about the regs - made me put a reflector on the back he told me he wouldnt pass a side mount plate at Waitakere testing station one inspector said he would pass side mount plate & taillight & another said he wouldn't in actual fact a guy let the side mount vertical plate thing go to court & he won so that one's already been tested | |

| will do byron thanks bruffa thanks for the write up brett, good dude, i seem to get away with having a real loud car, but i guess its not a matt black bike, haha, dont have enough cash for the fines! will i need to cert a shifter? kinda sounds like the motorbike modding side of things has gone under the radar legelness wise, maybe i should look into a cert anyway, i refuse to certify my airbagged pick up truck, $400 to look at mounts? no way ! are bike certs this much too? | |

| yeah a jockey shifter needs a cert. if its not a factory issued part then it needs a cert. i know of people who have been refered to a cert guy cause they had braided lines. thats a bit anal. colin at papakura is a sweet dude but he requires indicators and shit most of the time.if your wanting a cert or someone to advise you. give alex gee a call. hes a sweet dude, lives in massey. he has certed a couple of mine before. 09 416 8920. 027 264 7282 geeam@ihug.co.nz | |

| That braided lines one is a pain. Apparently they have to have a plastic cover to stop them rubbing through other stuff!! | |

| Braided lines used to need a number on them now the only rule is the have have the end fittings swaged on, not the one you can dissassemble with hand tools. | |

| yeah they can screw on to the adaptor but where the line meets the end fitting it has to be swaged the fist pic is good, the second one is the wrong type but its on there till i get told to take it off. still works better than rubber hose. | |

| its bloody stupid the braided thing, when I did a couple of race seasons we used the bolted up lines and had no probs braking from 280-290k's at pukekohe Its preety simple to get right if they are assembled wrong they will leak if correct they won't I have had so many arguments with dickhead vinning people,oh yea don't get me started on testing exaust systems | |

| yeah now u got me started...u know when they use those noise db testers - if your bike doesn't have a tach then they dont know what revs you're doin anyway - so it's not accurate anyway. there's too much bureaucracy & pc crap in our country, they keep trying to protect people from themselves or from other stupid people, but you can't legislate to remove stupidity. Like u said, if the brakeline join leaks, it's no good, if it doesn't, then it's fine - who makes up these stupid rules? | |

| I no about testing exhausts because land transport came to our shop to see how it should be done we went to the carpark behind work with a pile of different bikes and all nutted it out with ltsa, this is how they came up with the rules and its simple metre back from the bike, metre out from the bike and 500mm of the ground and out side not in a fucking tin shed ,I had a major argument with a vtnz guy who vinned a bike for us,the young guy at work took the bike to be vinned we had tested it before it went 96 dba,he arrives back telling me it fails wtf how did he test it? he tell's me he wheels it inside shed and chucks the dba meter up the exhausht revs it up and says it fails I had to phone him and politely tell he had done the test wrong and he had better pass it bloody dickheads arrgh. | |

| I had to borrow a set of standard soft tail pipes to get mine under the 100db limit... theres was no way in hell i could even get close with the drag pipes on - even packed with chicken wire and baffles. | |

| with a wof you can have what they call in their regs 'retro fitted parts'. These dont have to be certed, they just have to conform with the wof regs. (retro meaning you fitted it later on, not retro meaning vintage ) i havent had to get a vin so it is interesting to hear about that stuff. my sportster mufflers were measured at 97.9 at wof but they had no tacho so they were guessing that my revs were around the guideline (is it 2500rpm?) it seems funny to me that you have to put on all e marked lights for a vin but then later you can retro fit non e marked stuff and then pass your wof with it. and suchlike. | |

| I've never had them measure my pipes with a meter outside of the SVA teat when I took my Sprimnger back to eUK for a couple of years. Failed three times there. Here they just ask me about the bike in general and don't bother much with the changes. | |

| Cheers Paul, I just got all my paper work sent to me from my cert dude today. The good thing at the moment is there are very few rules as to what you can an can't do. However that will all change soon you can bet on that. | |
