| Hi - I've just started on my first ever bike project knowing nothing about anything! Im planning on creating a bobber out of an xs650.
Based in central Auckland, need to simplify the wiring and relocate the ignition.
Looking forward to cutting loose!

| Cool. Get some pics up. We need to see some new bikes and definitely need to get the crew out on the road together. Getting bored of pissing cars off on my own | |

| Thanks guys! Great to find an active forum on bikes in NZ!
@brett7777 - yes, they are for my xs- I've heard that the Rebel 250 shocks fit perfectly but will drop it by 2 inches which is what I'm after. Any ideas?

| yeah that would be about right, rebel shocks are 10", i guess xs650 stock are 12" the other thing to consider is the mounting holes, rebel ones are 16mm top eye & 10mm bottom eye, so have a look at the mounting bolt sizes on your xs. although you could do like I did with the sportster struts & bore/sleeve the shock mounts for the xs hole sizes maybe? what about suzuki savage / LS400, LS650, I think those are short shocks too the aftermmarket companies like progressive, ikon (ex koni), hagon etc will do short shocks that would fit it too, so keep an eye out for someone selling off any of those too | |

| Woah - project has been on hold for 4 years with two new little ones running around the house. Here is the current status with also a pic of my target bike. Next steps ... - new tank (have kit - need welder) - new rear fender (probably custom) - new seat (prob custom) Does anyone have any contacts who can do the above? Cheers! Phil | |

| Heiwa. Very cool shop. If you can drag the bike out to Helensville You can borrow the tools, welder etc and finish it off yourself. I'm doing a sort of freebie period in the workshop for a while so we can get some build out on the road. | |

| Hi Phil. Nice to see another XS. Hopefully there's a pic attached of my 79 XS. You can use the existing front guard for the rear with a bit of garage panel beating, I did with mine and it works well. The tank, lights , indicators etc came from the states, handle bars are off an Enfeild, otherwise everything else I fabricated myself, the rest of it is stock. Its time the bike got a birthday so It'll either be a full rebuild or fancy paint job and some other non shiny bling. Should put the call out to all XS owners, how about a meet and greet? See what you've got. Cheers, David. | |
