Hi new with a quick Q Empty
PostSubject: Hi new with a quick Q    Hi new with a quick Q EmptySun Sep 04, 2011 3:30 pm

Hey team.

Im 22 and have just picked up my learner licence.. ( was something Ive always wanted to do just never got round to getting it )

looking round for a 250 at the moment but I really dont like the choices.. I would possibly look at a cbr250rr but thats a bit out of my budget at the moment.

so Ive decided to build a basic bobber, ( bet it wont stay basic from my history record )

what is the bike to go for?

Ive been looking at cb125, cg125s, rebel 250s ( seem too dear ) and a gn250 ( most likely looking at one of these? as u can get newish and cheap/ probably reliable )

there isnt too many nice gn250s ive found on the web and they seem to sit pretty high at the front any way of lowering them or new forks?

what is the deal with cutting the frame and making a hardtail with certs in nz?

Hi fouhy. GN is a pretty small bike to stet with. Great little commuter but physically too small to look right hard tailed without stretching the front as well. For something cheap and the right size you might be better looking at a 4stroke single trail bike. That has longer forks and a 21 inch front wheel already.

i tried putting some pics up but i cant until after a week aparantly.

I had a pretty big bail of a dirtbike this year broke a few ribs n it put the wind up me a bit so would be quite keen on starting on something small and a project and turn it into a nice bobber, then hopefully by then I would have enough cash for a cbr250rr! I really want to stay away from credit again!

would it be worth it to get something bigger? cb500? would i really get hassled that much for it? I never see bikes pulled over!

or what are some options for 125/250s under 2k sort of thing?

It depends on what it looks loike. Cops have started pulling bikes over with pretty big fines and points for no cert, WOF, and rego.
If you just want to get your hands dirty and learn how its done before you get something bigger, then just pick up anything tht runs and has a rego. Then take stuff off it until it starts looking better. Doesn't really matter what it is as long as you make it your own. That way you"ll learn some practical skills as well as what works as a design.

Not really. Seen to many bikes finished and then abandoned as it was too much hassle to get them legal. If you can't ride it then it's jus t an ornament

Good start. There were loads of docs about that explained the cert process. I'm sure somebody can dig them out and everyone has there own pet certifier so they can point you in the right direction.
